  • Gak

    * 1 cup hot water
    * 1.5 teaspoons Borax
    Mix until dissolved and set aside.

    * 2 cups clear or white school glue (Elmer’s or similar)
    * 2 cups warm water
    * 1 teaspoon liquid watercolor or food coloring if desired
    Mix these ingredients together in a large plastic bowl.

    Using a metal spoon, pour the Borax mixture into the glue mixture slowly while stirring fast. Stir until the bowl is clean. Gak will be sticky!

    Knead until gak isn’t sticky. The more you work it, the easier it will become to work with. Store in a Ziploc bag or airtight container. Works well with plastic or metal toys (cookie cutters, etc.) but will stick to fabric, carpet, or wood.

    Regular Playdough

    * 2 cups all-purpose flour
    * 1 cup salt
    * 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
    * 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    * 1 scant cup warm water
    * Liquid watercolor or food coloring if desired
    * Vanilla or other scented extract if desired

    Put everything into a large bowl. Mix together with your hands! Smooshing the mixture between your fingers is the best way to mix the ingredients. Remember to scrape the edges and add them to the dough until it is all mixed together.

    If it is too sticky, add a little flour. If it is too dry, add a little water.

    Store in a Ziploc or airtight container.

    Combine in a pot and stir. Once it is all mixed, add at least 8 drops of food coloring. Keep stirring until it comes together in a ball. Put it on a cutting board to cool (10 mins). Once it’s cool, knead the dough. Store in a airtight container.
