Meet the People Who Make Creative Minds Special
Our Story
Creative Minds Child Development Center was founded in 2009 and is professionally managed by Richa D. Kapur, an early childhood education leader with more than 30 years of experience.
The idea for Creative Minds began a year earlier, when Richa had recently moved from Portland, Oregon, where she had successfully started and led an early childhood education program. When she began looking for a program in San Jose for her infant nephew, she found that the choices were often at two extremes: large, impersonal, inflexible corporate centers or small home-based daycares.
She believed families deserved another choice—a warm, high-quality, professionally managed program that could offer the personal attention and close relationships of a small setting, combined with the expertise, resources, and consistency of a professional early learning center.
So, in 2009, Creative Minds was born.
What started with a simple idea has grown into a trusted early childhood community serving San Jose families for more than 15 years. And there is something especially meaningful about the journey: that infant nephew who helped inspire the idea for Creative Minds is now grown and studying Computer Science at UC Davis.
From the beginning, Creative Minds has been—and continues to be—focused on creating a boutique early learning experience where every child is truly known and every family feels connected.
We intentionally keep our groups small and our teacher-to-child ratios strong so our teachers have the time to know each child as an individual—their personality, interests, strengths, and unique needs. We believe children thrive when they feel safe, respected, and understood, and when they have the freedom to explore, discover, and grow at their own pace.
Our philosophy has remained consistent through the years:

We want every child who comes through our doors to feel known and cared for, inspired to grow with confidence and curiosity, and connected to a community that feels like home.
Many of the families who first trusted us with their children have stayed with us for years. Many have returned with younger siblings. And some of our former students have now grown into young adults.
We are proud of the relationships we have built over the years—and grateful to the families who have allowed us to be part of their children’s earliest and most formative years.
Creative Minds is more than a place where children spend their day. It is a place where relationships grow, curiosity is nurtured, and families become part of our village.
